Not that I'm complaining, by why would SunTrust give away 2,500 airline miles?

They must anticipate the debit card conversion will not be universally welcomed and hope to intercept pushback.

Visa is by far the dominant player. Most new debit card contracts are in addition to not in replacement of the existing contract with a rival brand.
