I'm a Hyatt Diamond, Loews Platinum and SPG Gold.
My SPG Gold set to expire in February, as I've fulled left them for Hyatt and Loews -- mostly Hyatt, but my wedding was at a Loews this year, so I had a lot of stays there.
Overall, after being Platinum/Gold with SPG for a number of years, I found the service to be substandard to that of both Hyatt and Loews, and the properties were all greatly lacking. Hyatt is by-far the better option.
With that said, if you are going to be in HNL, I would NOT recommend the Hyatt Regency Waikiki at all! I had a HORRID experience there during my honeymoon, and it is truly not worth the money. As much as I always advocate Hyatt, in HNL -- try booking at the following properties in order of my preference:
1) Hilton Hawaiian Village -- try to get a Rainbow Tower Room
2) Westin
3) Sheraton
If you are able to travel to the other islands, however, Hyatt us definitely the way to go. Grand Hyatt Kauai and Hyatt Regency Maui are superb properties that offer some of the best service in the islands.
Good luck deciding, and I'd suggest checking out the review threat for all of these properties -- I have written extremely long and detailed reviews from August of all the Hyatt properties in Hawaii.
i decided to book royal Hawaiian. they always give me a tower suite and I like the location. I have stayed at Westin a dozen times and service is spotty at best and waikiki sheraton is poorly laid out alot of walking to get anywhere and the other sheraton will be demolished soon.
Hyatt could be a good choice for another hotel program if they status match.
Thank you for your advice and expertise.
