I *think* I'll be flying a fair amount next year. It depends. I'm applying to the academic job market and hopefully I'll have at least a few interviews, job talks (which is like an academic 2nd interview), conferences, and research trips.
It may be an academic question (get it, ha!), since the only routings I can find for $500 come out to 11,000 - 11,500 miles. I recall that there are *usually* exceptions when you're close, but I don't know if I want to risk coming in at 49,500 and being told I'm out of luck.
I'm in the same position too at 38k miles. I've been trying to put together a mileage run that'll cost $600-700 and two days and deciding if it's worth it or not. I do like the higher priority for boarding and upgrades as a PLT, as well as the 100% mileage bonus. I haven't done any mileage runs before though so I'm torn.
