You can most likely fly half that amount if you utilize one of the DEQM promotional cities. Only you can decide if it's worth the $, but with AA's soft landing you'd at least be gold thru 2012 if you don't re-qualify next year for PLT.
Thanks for the tip! The soft landing does sound good, since if I don't travel much next year then I'll just be deferring travel to the year after. I'm still trying to get the promo DEQM thing figured out, but so far it looks like the math doesn't work for me due to the cost to get from SBA to one of the promo cities ($250-300 currently, and the DEQM trip would be $300).
