Sure looks like a lot of drag and weight penalty!

I'm pretty sure the terrestrial based one United uses is a simple blade antenna like a Transponder or DME on the belly. Works pretty good on the transcons I've been on in PS.

Hard to see how anyone can make money with all that gear plus Sat costs.

Obviously Sat a lot better for long haul ... but WN doesnt fly those and UA does.
