Today Schloß Elmau is a true five-star luxury hotel/spa/resort with a Michelin star gourmet restaurant (there are 6 restaurants, the other ones are quite good as well). I ate in Restaurant Fidelio (Italian) the first night and Luce d'Oro (the gourmet restaurant) the next) and the food was incredible.

Best of all, it´s only 100 km from München so, even with some Stau, it shouldn´t take more than 90 minutes to get there from a major metro area.

It´s at the foot of the Wettersteingebirge, a range of mountains that includes some of Germany’s largest, including the 2969 m high Zugspitze.

There are a lot of activities, ranging from yoga to guided hiking, but one could also just do nothing and relax and enjoy the solitude at a height of 1060 m.

A few Fotos are below. If you want more details and more photos, four (yes four) slide shows and a detailed review are online here.

For those of us totally unfamiliar with the property and area, how can one get there from Munich or another airport? Will a taxi do the trip or would you have to hire a hotel car/shuttle?

Thanks!
