This may well be another occasion of Delta trading long-term planning for shorter-term profits. In time LCCs will be the dominant airlines ... everywhere.
I can't wait to see where FR would decide to land in the US if it started doing TATL. They would probably find a ton of small airports lining up to add words like "New York", "Washington", and "Chicago" to their names so that FR could claim to be flying to places and instead landing two hours away.
