B fares require the same number of miles as all other discount fares; only Y fares require fewer miles for the upgrade. B fares do not have a co-pay and they have the 50% EQM bonus.

You could fly GUM-MAJ-HNL-LAX-EWR and B-Up the whole way as a platinum but that's all 738s, not the BF seat. And there's always the island-hopper instead of GUM-MAJ-HNL if you've got time to kill.

The HNL-IAH/EWR flights are not B-Up'able. There is a lot more info in the FAQ about which routes are and are not. :-:
