Mike, one tool that works pretty well for me is to download AA's electronic timetable app to my laptop & keep it updated every week (a new one comes out in the wee hours every Sunday morning). Look up the departure city, flight # and date and the software will let you know which type of S-80 is scheduled for the route. I fly out of SEA (either thru ORD or DFW) constantly and I also like to know what equipment I'll be on.
Though it's not 100% accurate (as repositioning can change A/C types at the last minute), so far it has been right on with the MD-80/83 family. I wish there was a way to differentiate the AA & TW 757's, as power ports are a real plus for me.
Right now, the software shows AA743 as being the only DFW-SEA (and AA1143 the only SEA-DFW) flight that is on AA metal; the rest are all MD-83's....with no 757 service at all for now. FWIW, SEA-ORD-SEA service now shows as all AA MD-80 metal, with no 737-800 service anymore. At least the # of daily flights is up.
