I was just wondering if anyone has been able to recently obtain an AA award trip in F from the US to Australia using CX with the "single" 145,000 mile award - or has it only been possible using two awards US-HKG and HKG-Australia? The AAdvantage agent I spoke to the other day insisted that it could only be done on QF using the 145K award and not CX.

You can no longer use the 145k regular AAdvantage award to get to Oz on CX.

BUT, according to more recent threads, you can use the OW180F award, which beats using 2 CX awards. The catches:

1. You can ask for use of CX from North America to Australia, which means transferring in HKG, BUT you can't stop over in HKG. As long as no stopover occurs, the mileage charged towards the oneworld award is based on the direct LAX-SYD mileage, 7300 or so.

2. You must use another non-AA o/w partner on the same trip, so add a short QF segment in Oz and an
AA segment in the USA.
