I was at the Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur on my birthday this year, and visited the Sheraton Langkawi resort in Malaysia a day or two later. Both hotels sent cakes to my room, and sent wine and chocs, too. I'm a platinum, and the latter may have been because of that. I hadn't made mention of my birthday while making the reservations or during check in.
