Just got back from a trip to Dubai and Joburg, and whilst in Dubai had a chat with a few people from EK. They have confirmed that Skywards Platinum is being introduced when the new terminal in DXB opens (which is again speculative.) One Purser told me this week that in their bulletin that it was confirmed to open next month and they had already been issued gate passes for T3 - but another told me he'd heard nothing and didnt expect anything until January...

Qualification Criteria for EK Platinum
1) Initally will be invitation only for the first twelve months - to be considered for an invite the following critera must be met:
Minimum 120,000 tier miles on EK (yearly)
with the above, Minimum 10 (ten) of the sectors contributing to the 120k must be in Full Fare J (D,I class excluded) or any class of First.
Guy I spoke to said he expects that after the first twelve months, that all in the above bracket will be offered platinum and they will drop the invite only requirement.
Benefits for Skywards Platinum Members
1) First Class Lounge access in DXB
2) First Class Check-in and Bag Priority at all stations
3) Chauffer Drive (irrespective of class) DXB ONLY
4) Guarenteed seat in all discounted economy classes, and full J
