Just Went Through This

IcyDog,
I have the Continental One Pass Plus Card, it used to be the World MasterCard, but they changed it.

Anyhow, I was going from EWR to SNN and encountered the same problem.

As per Continental's webSite, the page where they are trying to get you to pay $85/year for a cc...

"Transatlantic Itineraries: Second checked-bag fees waived (a savings of $100 per round trip per passenger checking bags)"

Here's the link
https://www.continental.com/web/en-U...re/bagfee.aspx

Anyhow, when I tried to check in on line and saw the $50 fee for the second bag, I knew there was going to be a fight.

I called MasterCard and they confirmed that yes - I was supposed to get one bag free. MasterCard restated that one free bag was a benefit of membership. Going to the Eu = one free bag from Continental and one free bag for cardholders. They always taught me 1 + 1 = 2, right? Well, maybe in Continental Land.

I called the Continental the night before and two hours later + one supervisor, they agreed I was correct - traveling to the EU from the USA implies no checked bags fee.

Their first argument was that there was a first checked bag fee. First as in the first bag and not the first fee. They said, and I am serious, that the first bag was free, so there was no fee. But then there was a second bag fee. You can see how quickly we get into semantics. (1) Is it a first bag fee or a bag that is first charged a fee? It wasn't until I brought the above page to their attention that they backed off this, pardon the expression, stupid argument.

Anyhow, the supervisor on the phone agreed and told me to: (1) print out the page (which by the way has clearer language than when I went - I honestly think they cleared it up because of my calls and emails) and (2) grab a red coat at the Airport. I requested she put a note on my ticket for the red coat.

Anyhow, I get to the airport and NOPE! The redcoat says everyone is wrong but him. 30 minutes on the phone, he doesn't care what's in the notes, and he finally asks for my credit card - he says I have to have the actual cc on me. I had the old one, same number, different color scheme. He puts up a stink, but in the end, relents - doing me a favor.

Lesson learned: (1) bring the cc with you, (2) call a supervisor the night before, and (3) print out the page.

I would ask the supervisor if they are going to be working the night you are traveling. Call them directly.

IMHO, continental leaves this one purposely nebulous to slam as many people as possible at the last second.

I have posted this exact question to onePassAir and I am still waiting for their reply - 2 weeks.

Good Luck
