Absolutely tell them. With your 1K and PLT status, you could have chosen probably anywhere in the world to celebrate your half-century b-day, but you chose this hotel. And something tells me the property will be the receipient of some additional revenue beyond the room fare (even if 'free' for you, they get something from SPG), so why not have them give something back to you?
