The news graphic is not all that accurate regarding LCCs like VX. They miss the point that VX has what is called "Main Cabin Select" which is priority/select seating or a hybrid version of Premium Economy. It can be expensive to buy the MCS fare directly, but if you purchase the lowest coach fare, you can upgrade for $110 and get extra legroom, priority boarding, one checked bag free, all the meals free, all of the IFE free and all drinks free. Secondly, even if you are flying the lowest coach fare on VX, you can have a limited amount of IFE free, although there is a headset charge.

The other point this graphic is implicitly saying is that although US LCCs are charging fees for many amenities, you are getting more value in return. Compare that to the king of pay as you go, Ryanair, you are paying more for less value because this airline is charging for the "basics", whereas, the basics are still included in the US LCC fare with Spirit being an exception.
