Delta is fairly easy to accumulate miles quickly on and they fly to the Caribbean. I think the American Express Delta Optima Gold card still has a 10,000 mile sign-up bonus. It has a $75 or $80 fee, but when I converted it to the no annual fee American Express Hilton Optima card after receiving my bonus miles, I received a pro-rated refund of my annual fee plus 7,500 Hilton Honors points. The Diners Club card has sign up bonuses of 10,000 - 12,000 miles for an $80 fee. I think the current offer allows you to earn 1,000 miles a month for twelve months. I think I still have a member-get-a-member application that allows you to earn 10,000 miles up-front, but I don't know if it still being honored. Switching your long-distance to MCI should get you 5,000 or so Delta miles over a six month period. If the trick works of converting your A.E. Delta gold card to an A.E. Hilton gold card, once you get to 10,000 Hilton points I think you can convert the Hilton points to 1,500 Delta miles.
