Sit facing forward, reach your hand under the armrest palm up. Slid it to the back until you feel the metal thing at the back that is raised up. Take your thumb and pointer finger and put them slightly together like you are making the OK sign. Reach for the metal piece with a pincer like motion. Put your fingers on the piece of metal and pull it forward as you use the other hand to pull up the armrest.
Some planes have them at every seat, like the 767 and some only have a few seats.
