The 300dpi is meaningless to the discussion; all it affects is the size of the image when printed on paper. I can open the file in Photoshop and change it to 1million dpi without changing anything else.
The file as shown probably reflects around 0.1 inches per pixel (10 pixels per physical inch; a ballpark estimate) of resolution. For all I know the actual resolution could be higher. However, the JPEG compression has clearly obfuscated many details. If the actual machines display this image (with the JPEG artifacts), then then machines' designers are clearly inept.
(This is not a commentary on the machines, but I do find them disgusting, both as a waste of taxpayer $, and because they are far too intrusive.)
