You do realize that Delta has a very easy-to-use paid upgrade program, don't you? I believe it's available all the way up to the point you board the aircraft. Just call SMS or hand the Gate Agent your Platinum Delta SkyMiles AmEx and they'll be glad to charge you the fare difference plus a modest change fee to upgrade from Coach to BusinessElite
