Cust. Svc. did the right thing: +50,000 miles adj.
The old P200EE (2 prem. FC txt NA-EUR) award was phased out at the end of Jun-02, and I was one of the many who cashed in miles last year to save 50K mi/pair...but I redeemed too many--there was just no way I was going to be able to take advantage of so many freebies (especially since London is now the only AA destination offering FC). I called AA to turn back in 8 unused tickets, and to my dismay discovered that while 6 tickets pertained to 3 awards (and therefore 200K mi reinstated), 2 tickets pertained to separate Awards (I had already flown flight on 1 of the pair received from that specific award.)
AA's very firm policy is that they reinstate only 75K mi when you turn in only 1 ticket from the pair. This would have resulted in a 50K penalty--i.e. had I simply used tickets from the same award, I would have received 100K*2=200K mi upon reinstatement like the others.
After much polite groveling, I was able to convince a manager at Cust.Svc. to be compasisonate, given the circumstances, and make me whole. They certainly didn't have to do it. I very much appreciate the EXP desk and AA customer service: they used their discretion and did the right thing.
Thank you, AA.
