What I found profoundly disturbing was how the vast majority of the people were marching in without a challenge, like so many cattle on their way to slaughter. Men, women, sons and daughters, all putting up no fuss at all about being stripped bare digitally for a very invasive search.
(snip)
I told the TSA agent that “I have a religious objection to myself and my kids being rendered digitally naked. What are our options?”
The agent stated that we can submit to a “pat down” search. I was extremely uncomfortable about my kids having to endure such an invasive procedure, and they themselves voiced their discontent with that. My son was refusing to go through the gate and said he would just wait for me. I myself wasn’t sure how I would react to a complete stranger touching my 12-year-old girl — probably how I would react to any pervert attempting to do the same, let’s just leave it at that –, and started considering how to get around this without causing a firefight and a delay that would cause us to miss the plane that was going to take off in the next 15 minutes.
To my surprise, the TSA officer offered a THIRD alternative — to just go through the metal detectors! Yes, they still had them there.
