I use both a MacBook Pro 17" and an iPad. The 17"-er is more like a desktop that I can pack up and take with me at any time, so depending on how long i'm going for I have to make a decision as to whether I'm taking the laptop along or just the iPad. If I'm out for a few months, weeks, or even a week for that matter... I'll grab the big bag. If it's just two nights somewhere and back again I don't bother and just take the iPad along.

Moving to an iPad completely is a bit extreme as it's not a mini-laptop but rather a larger iPhone in terms of the OS (just that you can't call from it). Now if Apple was to install their normal computer OS on the iPad then that would be a different story, but for now that doesn't seem to be on the cards...
