I sure hope they do.

Seriously, if it worked (by "making" more people buy full Y), AA (and everyone else) would allocate fewer seats to L and N the rest of the year, not just around the holidays. They would do it each and every day.

More likely than not, people planned ahead rather than waiting until 30 days out. Plenty of them paid less than full Y, and late planners either pay or stay home.

I have never noticed a problem purchasing L and N and V fares for holiday travel. But January is summertime in Argentina, right??

I too have never had a problem purchasing at least some sort of discount fare 30 days out. The strange thing is I purchased a 12/20-1/4 R/T EZE-JFK this week also for about $800 a pretty "normal" discounted fare for this route. That is why I was really surprised at the $2600 for 1/8-1/12 on the same route. I would think if anything 1/8-1/12 is after the peak holiday demand and more discounted seats would be available as opposed to 12/20 to 1/4. But as you say it is summertime here so maybe early january is more popular than late Dec.
