All depends what you're looking for. I prefer the Marina, but that's me and I'm only there during the week so I get the CL. The rooms are very nice and the view is excellent. They were doing renovations to the elevators in Sept. The lobby of the Gaslamp Marriott is very nice and the roof top bar is supposed to be excellent. I just has part of my team stay at the Gaslamp RI. Nice and a good location, but still just a RI. For my money, I'd go with the Marina. It's close enough to the Gaslamp so walking there isn't an issue and it's quieter. And it has a very nice pool if you get good weather.
