Count the destinations MEM-JFK-xxx that are NOT available MEM-ATL-xxx or MEM-AMS-xxx. Count the number of daily MEM-originating passengers headed to those destinations. We can expect Delta did something similar.
(At time of merger announcement NW from MEM served just two destinations non-stop that were not already available from ATL.)
I keep an old NWA schedule on my desk from 2002 -- back then there were no flights from JFK to MEM, so this isn't that unusual.
