Is there any logic to the seat changing policy

Having OLCI'd my family into 6 seats together, i have just checked and we've all been moved.
My 3 yr old son is in 16K - nearest member of family is 5 rows away. My 2 yr old daughter - in her first ever flight in her own seat - is in 9B, no other family member is close.
Insane. What is going on?
