WN Pax' strange boarding and seating habits beguile me sometimes

Maybe this is just an indictment of human traits overall; but I'd think WN, with policies like "no assigned seats" and the boarding line wouldn't have pax, especially elite ones, that suffer from some of the same quirks as those on the legacies:

- Gate lice. It's not like UA's "Red Carpet", et al., where you're getting on first depending on when you get to the front of the line (and I still don't buy the cries from 1Ks and GS about "no overhead space otherwise"); you're going to board in a numerical order (somewhat, modulus 5 places), determined usually before you even get to the airport. So WHY are people lined up at the poles as soon as the GA makes the announcement, and usually before the plane has either arrived, or before any pax have deplaned? I've seen people with A-44 and "A-List" on their BP who lined up while the aircraft taxis to the gate standing up for 20 mins. At one point it was so ridiculous I pointed out the window and told this one guy "You know the plane isn't here yet, right?" (FWIW, if I'm < A-31 I line up when they call for Preboards, or after they call BS otherwise.)

- Ignoring perfectly good seats. This one really confuses me. I'm not talking about "back-rows-middle-seat eenie-meenie-miney-moe", either- I've seen people who want a window ask two people in row SEVEN if they could get up to give them the window, when there's other windows available on absolutely empty rows, including the one RIGHT BEHIND THEM. Go figure- and it'd not JRP's hott seatmate thing (most times) either.

What am I missing?
