Yes, I saw that there were long layovers in AMS on 2 of the 3 itineraries that I posted above on the journey from KIG - though there was also an option leaving KIG at 3 in the morning which only had slightly over an hour between flights in AMS.

However, by adding in the extra routing via CDG, the total time from departure to ultimate arrival remains more or less the same - it's just that there's a whole lot more flying to do! He won't get home much earlier, but it needlessly adds potential complexity and expense!

Even given the long layover, I'd certainly go for that option, on a single ticket, rather than going for the option with the detour via CDG. AMS certainly isn't the worst airport to be stuck in for a few hours, anyway.

Just another thought - these itineraries can be booked on other sites (such as www.expedia.com - I've just verified, use the US version.) so perhaps he could try booking there (or Orbitz, Opodo, CheapTickets, etc etc etc) if the AF/KL sites are having trouble giving him a ticket. That said, though, http://www.klm.com/travel/rw_en seemed to work fine for me earlier on a simple booking from KIG to SXB.
