Sorry to hear you have been having trouble. I dont have personal experience with Marriott or Holiday Inn but with most chains, you can set your earning preference to miles (and choose US airways as the partner and input your Dividend Miles number online) while making the reservation online. This way, you would not have to deal with having the front desk person enter your information when you check in.
