CX is a member of OneWorld, just like AA. As such, CX flights (purchased as CX flights and not codeshares) are also eligible for AA miles, as long as they are in the proper fare classes.
Just buy your CX tickets in H or higher, use your AAdvantage number, and you will earn 100% status miles. If you decide to buy the CX flights, and not the codeshares, they are easiest to buy on the Cathay-usa website. Enjoy.
