Belatedly, and possibly unrelated: we were trying to book LHR-SCL on TAM using *A miles (lots of bmi points to burn before they get rolled into Lufty's M&M program) and were looking at a TAM routing with GRU plane change. Availability was excellent up to one dark day when it all disappeared. Later that week, announce went out that TAM was merging with LAN. Could be coincidence, but seems a big one. Taking that one step further, perhaps the merger did the same thing to redemption availabiliy on the OW side that it did on *A, as they still haven't restored availability to *A. End of story: we burned the bmi points on an Africa booking instead and will save Chile for another year. Best of luck to you, though...
