As you mentioned, the Premier Gold is for those who spend less annually, and are looking for "points". The Platinum card is for people who want more "service" and "luxury".

What I dont get is why they have 2 Gold products, which just confuses the crap outta most people.

Rename the lower tiered Gold to Silver. And make the Green card with a lower annual fee.

But of course, that would require using logic, which AMEX sometimes seems to lack.

I didn't realize spending less meant getting the Gold Card. Personally I like the idea of 3x points on Airlines. I'm also pretty sure I've done my fair share of spending YTD on my card.
