CGK->HKG->JFK->BOS Cathay J
I recently took my return flight back from Jakarta to Boston. Some things of note:
Jakarta airport:
After checking in on the rather simple business class check in stand, I proceeded to the lounge. The lounge is all the way at the end of the lounge area and you have to look hard to see Cathay's name. The lounge itself is fine: breakfast items and alcohol was readily served (always someone there who wants to help). One shower was available which I was happy to find since this was an early flight out. Wi-fi was also available. Clear notification was given when it was time to board
CGK -> HKG:
We boarded through F/J jetway, so boarding was fast. I found myself on a 777 even though I had seen an A340 when I made the reservation. I was on 12K, on the front section of J. Again, looking out the window a bit awkward, but not impossible + how often is one really looking out? Breakfast service was good with nice choice of cereals and other breakfasty foods. I had had a long night and an early wakeup, so I went to sleep pretty quickly. It was great to have the lie flat seats, no complaints again on size.
HKG layover:
I had about 10 hours worth of a layover so I spent a few hours visiting the Buddha that you get to on the cable car from Tun Chung station (close to the airport @ Citygate). Coming back to the airport I went to the new lounge "The Cabin". It is modern looking, spacious, with a good choice of food and drinks available. Some nice touches: iPad is available to borrow! Mac + Windows available for use. I went over to the Wing and food choice was not as good + the place was a bit darker. I came back to the Cabin, nicer place.
HKG -> JFK:
Nothing major to report. It was the flight over YVR that leaves at midnight. The cool thing is that between HKG and YVR (a 10 hour flight approx), you get to see sunrise and sunset! You finally arrive to YVR on the prior day. Again, seats are comfortable, cabin is quiet, food was good, obviously not as great as F. I slept through the night with little problems. Champagne served prior to departure, nuts shortly after (with more drinks). The stop in YVR was annoying. Everyone is stuck in the transit lounge, no lounges just some vending machines + free wifi.
JFK layover:
Admirals club... oh my, do they have stuff to learn. Drinks and food for purchase, they didn't even give me vouchers. Wifi not available for J class (only on the flagship lounge or for Admirals club members). The only good thing was the shower, which again I used since I arrived early in the morning. The breakfast sucked, you even have to buy cereal... c'mon. I insist: it is better than nothing sure (at least no airport crazyness), but I stop short of that... it is still the worst lounge I know.
JFK -> BOS:
Finally my flight left on time. THe trip on the ERxxx was nice although cabin space was tight.
