On short haul I always select a front bulkhead aisle seat as there is not that pending threat that exists further back of some a*seh*le ramming their seat back without looking; secondly there isn't the claustrophobic closeness of the seat back in front and thirdly you can stretch your feet into the aisle but be on the look out for rampaging trollies.
