With AC the charges are simply inventions.
For instance to redeem Continental miles and go from Dallas to Calgary on One Pass points will cost you the 25000 points and 56 dollars in fees. Now to go on Air Canada it will cost you 25000 points and 96 dollars in fees. Then the website won't let you book it and so you need to tack on another 30 bucks booking fee because their POS website is a joke.

You know what? I can't blame them. We don't really care. They ask for money and we cough it up. No questions asked. We re a pretty pitiful bunch of consumers. Theres more than a hint of price collusion on some routes. FRA-YYZ return on LH and AC have an identical fuel surcharge. YYZ-FRA is $5 more (fuel) + $30 more (NavCan). YYZ - HKG has equally mysterious surcharges. HKG-YYZ return is $132 (Fuel). YYZ-HKG return is $190 + $30/$40 NavCan. Thats a price difference of anywhere between $88 and $98.

Its essentially a tax being levied on Canadian residents by Air Canada. At times like this, I really wish EK could come in and remind AC that Canadian consumers shouldn't be taken for granted.

Maybe Sebring will pipe up. Not that I expect him to. He's just a cheerleader for AC who disappears faster than Dick Cheney the moment a troublesome question shows up.
