What you are referencing, I assume, is the "Warm Sands Sex Sting." I don't really know much about it and no one even mentioned it when I was out there last Feb.

However I do know that the action in Warm Sands had somewhat gotten out of hand with men cruising the streets in their vehicles at all hours of the day and night seeking sexual assignations. These encounters have been occuring in vehicles and in secluded spots in the 'hood. Many of these men are "straight " closet cases.

The homeowners (many of them gay) were understandably unhappy and so the cops cracked down.

The PS city government is not homophobic to my knowledge. Nor are most of the residents.

I should add from my previous post that the retirees in both PS and FTL have at least one thing in common---a fondness for booze. With too much free time on their hands a lot of them are slowly drinking themselves to death. It's the dirty little secret that no one likes to admit---but it's there. PS and FTL are resorts, barren culturally and with little to do unless you play golf, boat ,love the beach or similar activities.
