If you don't believe me, this was all written up in Joe. My. God., The Advocate, The BAR, The Edge and by Dan Savage, who encouraged his readers NOT to visit Palm Springs, along with other gay sources.
I originally grew up in Buffalo with a hostile police force, and really don't have any intention of visiting or living in that environment again.
If anyone has more recent information, I would welcome it.
Actually, it gets worse, much worse. The mayor of Palm Springs is openly gay and has refused to address the issue because he is currently running for Mary Bono's seat and he's afraid of being perceived as too far left during the election. This is the biggest act of cowardice of all. Palm Springs is a funny mix of politics, you have a huge gay population, but you also have a huge conservative Republican base there as well. If you read the local paper, they barely cover the issue, but what's really disgusting are the homophobic reader comments.
Anyhow I'm with you on the boycott. Although I hate to punish the gay businesses, I have sent a note to the mayor telling him why I won't be coming back until this is dealt with.
