Doubletree Club hotels were originally called (Compri) Hotels, developed by Doubletree (pre-Hilton) to address the isolation often experienced by very frequent business travelers. The cornerstone of each hotel was the (Compri) club, an effort to bring the concierge or executive floor experience to the entire hotel, allowing travelers to meet and socialize. The (Compri) club included a lounge, reading area, game tables, desks with phones, etc. and all hotels provided complimentary cooked to order breakfast and evening cocktail reception.
I thought it was a great concept at the time. Doubletree had a lot of great ideas and innovations in the early years, many of which have been quite watered down since Hilton's acquisition.
