A compact means a stop at the counter?

Am I mis-reading the language on the EE bennies? I think it says that one may by-pass the counter for mid-size or larger rentals...so does that mean for a smaller car I will need to go to the counter? (this is SLC, have never rented here)

I have a 2 week personal rental coming up, and the compact / mid-size rate difference was so substantial I went small.

OR - should I have selected the mid-size knowing I would pay for a compact? Still uncertain as to how the billing/reservation works on EE....

(and I apologize if this is covered elsewhere, my search skills are abysmal...)

TIA for the clarification.
