When you have trouble finding a *A seat with Aeroplan, while you can definitely see it on ANA, you can ask the Aeroplan agent to long-sell a seat, which is basically sending a note to the airline requesting an award seat, instead of just "picking up" the seat that shows available in the system.
Once the note is sent to the airline, the airline then answers by YES, or NO.
