We were bustituted in 2008 from Victorville to Bakersfield, CA becuse the Southwest Chief was too late to make a connection to the Coast Starlight. I had a 30K point award and got 10K back. It is AGR that compensates not Amtrak. Yes, you do miss meals and in our case there was no compensation. Also, no instructions as to where the busses were in Victorville or what we were supposed to do in Bakersfield. It was an adventure!
