Your case is more of an exception rather than a rule. LH is now testing a software that scans the cards to see their validity in order to remove the manual check at lounge entrances. So, in your case it shows that an agent did not fulfill his/her duties. While LH status passengers are also checked, particular interest is attached to Star Alliance status flyers.
