Not what you want to hear but ... skip the iPod entirely. If you need to buy more of Apple's deliberately-defective stuff just to use video-calling then I would respectfully suggest that the flaw is with Apple's failure to make FaceTime work properly. Don't get sucked in.

Use Skype (perhaps on a Mac): works better, is far more widely used and is much, much cheaper.
