From a general e-mail from my travel agent (American Express)
Ansett Airlines will fly again on the Sydney - Melbourne route from Saturday
September 29, using 11 aircraft and selling most of its seats for a limited
time as $99 AUD one way "Kick-Start" fares. The airline will be run by
Ansett staff, from Ansett terminals and will operate up to 32 flights daily
between Melbourne and Sydney with the aim to add services to Brisbane and
Perth within 7-10 days. First flights this Saturday will take-off
simultaneously from Melbourne and Sydney domestic airports at 9.00am.
Also from Thursday 27th September, with the resumption of Kendell Airlines
services, Ansett's regional airline subsidiaries will all have returned to
the air. The partial restart of Kendell Airlines, Hazelton Airlines,
Aeropelican and Skywest in the past week means 27 regional towns and centres
will have air links restored from the 27th of September.
Last week, flights operated by Ansett Australia, and its subsidiaries were
suspended because there were insufficient funds to keep the planes flying.
The Australian government is guaranteeing the sale of Ansett tickets for a
period of 12 weeks, in order to encourage travel on Ansett.
Passengers who
already had tickets will have the option of flying as planned or receiving a
refund from the government.
