I don't mind hanging out in the CO or US lounge, but I don't want to spend three hours with my luggage outside check-in. And I don't want to spend money on an overpriced post-cruise tour. Renting a car for the day is not an option.
It will depend upon your airline, check with UA. I fly AA out MIA quite a bit and if the weather is bad I usually go the airport in the morning to work out of the AC for the day. I've never had a problem with an agent checking me in (although I never check bags.) But again, UA may have a different policy.
