I was just wondering where, if at all, are passports scanned (exit logged) for immigration purposes. I.e. at what stage is it recorded that we leave the UK.

On arrival, the immigration process is an unforgettable wait (with IRIS always down)! But I can't seem to notice any immigration process when flying out.

Unless this is just before boarding when they check passport and BP?

Any ideas?
