Not immediately in the UK. The initial reference is either a) your banker or b) you give them 3 months bank statements. My banker said they normally just call to ask for a simple bank reference (history of account, verification of name/address, etc.). If either seem like you are lying they may question your status/income and they would likely request your last payslip, or other evidence to show appropriate income. If you have £100k in your current account, they probably don't care. Incidentally, if you want a high "limit" on the card, have a large amount in your current account for three months as I think that is what would be used to set your limit - otherwise it is your previous Plat history.
