Well, this isn't entirely fair. It's one thing to let a mom & pop agency foot the bill for $30 tickets to Fiji, but if a ticket is sold STL-SCL for $1100 in economy, I think that's a good faith purchase. This is why agencies have E&O insurance, and this ultimately is a mistake that should be taken up between the agency manager and the agent who made the mistake.
As an agency, I would never go after my customer for a mistake like this. This specific situation, unfortunately, is part of the cost of doing business.
As a customer, I would have no qualms flying as booked even after discovering that the original agent made a mistake. That said, I also would have no problem ponying up the add-collect if I made a voluntary change later.
