I remember reading about the terminology in another thread on FT, and it basically echos what you said. However, apparently "cross-checking" can be a self-check. (IIRC, BA actually has 2 cabin crew members check each door before it's formally announced as "armed and cross-checked." On AA, I usually only see one FA flip the switches on the doors and announces them as "armed and cross-checked.")
