The airline industry has tiered retention. Some data must be retained for as long as 50 years to comply with certain FAA and military regs. Not sure where Customer Relations falls in the mix but many companies just carpet-bomb it and retain everything "forever."

Fortunately for me, this means good job security as I support the software their legal teams use to do their data mining and discovery ^
